Japan is moving forward with its highly anticipated integrated resorts (IR) program, set to feature massive casinos alongside hotels, shopping malls, and entertainment venues. However, as the nation prepares for its first-ever legal casinos, questions about online gambling remain unresolved.

    

    While the IR initiative is expected to generate billions in revenue and attract millions of tourists annually, critics warn that the rise of unregulated online gambling could undermine these benefits. Japan currently has no legal framework for online casinos, leaving citizens vulnerable to offshore platforms.

    

    The government is studying international models, including Singapore and the UK, to explore whether regulated online gambling could coexist with land-based casinos. Advocacy groups are calling for a comprehensive approach that addresses addiction and protects players.
